The Texture of Air
YEAR2020
MEDIUMSOUND INSTALLATION

Inspired by the Texture of Air sound archive, Signal-to-Noise have created an interactive sonic artwork exploring the rich history and heritage of two famous hospitals, Eastman Dental Hospital (EDH) and Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital (RNTNEH).
The work consists of a tactile device which is touch sensitive. A series of circular markings spread over the device mark out individual audio samples selected from the Texture of Air audio archive. Through engaging with this tactile control surface, strands of oral history conversations with staff and patients, music and field recordings can be recalled, manipulated and remixed in real-time in this site-specific experience.
